Professor Paul Madden FRS, FRSE
The University of Edinburgh
Research Interests: Development of techniques to allow the realistic modelling of materials. Structural, thermodynamic, spectroscopic and transport properties.
Symposium topic: From first-principles to the properties of ionic materials, via transferable interaction potentials.
Biography: I was appointed to The Chair of Chemistry and Director of the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions (CSEC) at the University of Edinburgh in 2005. Prior to this I held several positions, including a Professorship at the University of Oxford. I was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society in 2001, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2005. I have also held numerous visiting professorships across continents, as well as being the recipient of many prizes and medals, including the Royal Society of Chemistry Tilden Lectureship
I have published approximately 250 articles in the area of theoretical studies of material properties and computer simulation.
